Description
Possessing a gull shaped upper wing, retractable undercarriage and more powerful armament with four ShKAS machine guns and a more powerful engine, the maiden flight of the I-153 “Chaika” (Gull), occurred in August 1938. Between 1939 and 1941 3,437 were produced, and was the basis of fighter design with the I-16 fighter, serving with the Soviet air force until mid 1943.
