Description
The Savoia-Marchetti SM79 Sparviero, translating into English as sparrowhawk, served with Italy’s air forces during WWII and was its primary medium bomber. It is considered one of the most effective bombers of the Axis Powers, operating over the Mediterranean as a traditional torpedo bomber. Its three engines, made it incredibly fast for a plane of its size, often evading interception as it mainly flew unescorted. Approximately 1,300 were produced, remaining in service until 1952.
