Description
HMS Naiad was one of 11 Dido class light cruisers, initially serving with the Home Fleet at the outbreak of the Second World War, on convoy protection duties.
In November 1940, she participated in the search of German raiders and in that December and the following month, escorting convoys to and from Freetown, Sierra Leone.
In May 1941 HMS Naiad was in action in the Mediterranean, in support of Malta, where she spent the rest of her operational history, until when, on the 11th March 1942, whilst returning from the defence of Crete, she was sunk by U-565, resulting in the loss of 77 personnel.
