Description
The Astute class submarine is the latest class of hunter killer submarine of the British Royal Navy, with commissioning commencing in 2010. The submarine has an appearance similar to a whale, and being nuclear-powered, does not require refuelling over its expected 25 year lifetime. The Astute class submarine is built by BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness, on the north west coast of England. The Astute class will eventually comprise of 7 craft, in contrast to ballistic missile submarines such as the Vanguard class.
