Description
One of the Town Class Batch 3 cruisers, the Belfast was nearly struck off early in World War II, after striking a magnetic mine in the Firth of Forth in late 1939. After re-c0mmisioning in 1942, she saw action at the Battle of the North Cape in World War II, as well as protecting the Artic convoys and taking a major role during the D-Day landings. After a major refit, she subsequently saw action in other conflicts including the Korean War, she is now preserved and anchored in the River Thames near to Tower Bridge in London, and is well worth a visit.
The kit itself was originally released in 1973, and is considered to be one of the best 1/600 releases from Airfix, containing a wealth of detail. The colour scheme depicts her career from 1942 to 1944, when operating in Northern waters.
For the keen ship modeller, aftermarket products are available for further detailing the model as follows;
3D armament, range and direction finders, ships boats, deck furniture etc from Micro Master and Starling Models.
