Description
HMS Dreadnought was a revolutionary battleship of the Royal Navy that entered service in 1906, and marked a significant shift in naval architecture and warfare, giving its name to an entire class of battleships known as “dreadnoughts”, rendering all other battleships, globally, obsolete.
The Dreadnought featured an all-big-gun armament scheme with ten 12-inch guns, a departure from the mixed-calibre armament of previous battleships. It also employed steam turbine propulsion, which provided greater speed and efficiency.
Her introduction sparked a naval arms race among the world’s great powers, profoundly influencing naval strategy and ship design in the early 20th century.
