Description
Launched at the Birkenhead shipyard of Cammel Laird on the 13th April 1937, H.M.S. Ark Royal was crucially involved in the eventual sinking of the German Battleship Bismarck in May 1941. Although claimed by the German authorities, of having been sunk on many previous occasions, she was eventually torpedoed by the German Submarine U-81 at 06:13 hrs. on 14th November 1941, and despite a valiant attempt to tow her back to Gibraltar, she eventually slipped under the waves, with only one matelot losing his life.
The original tooling for this kit was from 1966, with the box illustration by Roy Cross.
For those wishing to add further detail to the kit, a photoetch set is available from White Ensign Models, and highly detailed 3D parts, such as anti-aircraft armament, ships boats, fire control and searchlights etc. from Micro Master and Starling Models.
